Well if a good deploy can give you the upper hand, a bad one can really make you struggle through out most of the match. I got the taste of that through my 10th defeat.
First off lets look at my samurai… The question right after I deployed was, “what was I thinking?”. My samurai were completely off battle, they almost didn’t pose a threat to Nunos and my vector were far from the front line. My tactic to put the scarabs because of the low cost split in front of the flag was useless. So I moved and tried to really push my opponent.
I used my eagles, then I tried to the vectors and scarabs, but the fact was I would always have to wast movements to protect my flag from his samurais whereas he didn’t. This was a great battle he really showed composure and kept it cool controlling the whole battle, great win.

I think that players don’t give as much credit as they should to the Driller. This unit is the first medium unit of the Renegades, mainly because the other administrators don’t find it very useful. In fact, the Driller can be quite useless. The low range makes it hard to use. However, if the driller is on the center of the action, it’s one of the most powerful units you can have, because if you think about it, it’s very difficult to defend against the Driller!

And I got that experience on a mini tournament finale against reborned. His properly positioned Driller (in conjunction with his Samurai), allowed him to beat me in 11 turns. It’s not by chance that reborned is the first player on the ladder and on the top ELO, he is proving to be the best player on the game board at the moment.

Some while ago, Mawhrin-Skel talked about a glory of the past, funnynovato.

I’ve been changing some emails with him and he sent me 2 pictures from the first version of Orion’s Belt. Seems nostalgic doesn’t it?

siege

It’s been like this for quite a while. My fleet can’t escape these Death Squadron thugs. They come in line for a certain defeat! The interesting thing is that I sent this fleet to a far away place. But it seams that they’re are protecting something nearby… after cleaning this persian scum my spartan warriors will scout a bit.

This sittuation also shows the need for immunity on the fleets. They just give up and attack me right away.

After a great battle on the semifinal, I have just lost the Regicide final to nunos. He is now the first player to win a Regicide tournament on the new version of the game. Congrats to him!

It was a great match. I had the advantage and used the same tactic that I did with the match against Firiten. But at turn 27 I did a major error and lost on the following turn 100 Interceptor, 29 Doomer and an Egg, that was about to transform into a Maggot. After that I still put up a fight, but nunos controlled the game and got a deserved win.

You can see the match here:

At the end I was quite annoying and made him play the match for additional 30 turns, before he could get the win! :)

You read it well. I had a battle where I could grasp the full power of the Stinger. It was a battle for a relic and as soon as I saw my opponent’s fleet I Knew I’d loose. He had a good fleet, with Eagle and Kahuna and a mini Firing Squad. I didn’t have any units with special abilities. So I started from the start with the mindset of damaging his fleet as much as I could so that my rescue fleet would have a easier job.

The match started with my fleet suffering heavy losses. Not only the had the firing squad, he also had many light unit hunters. And on the first turns I suffered heavy losses. On my fleet I had 115 Hive King and 350 Stinger. The Hive Kings where the only units that gave me some advantage, because he split his units and no group could destroy it without taking damage. But because he had a lot of lights and a catapult unit, I thought that it was just a matter of time.

But on turn X I saw a light at the end of the tunnel, when my Stinger took out a group of his Kahuna a replicated. And after that, the Stinger won me that combat. You see, the Stinger has some very interesting side effects:

  • They are resistant… yes! On that match I was at a situation where I could replicate on Kahuna/Eagle but would be on range of Crusaders. But if I replicate 50 times and loose 100 Stinger, at the end of the turns I’m at advantage!
  • Stinger are great against light units! Having stinger on the center of the action was a hell for his lights
  • Having a large quantity of Stinger allows you to properly trade units considering replication, and you may get the advantage

As you can see on the match, the Stinger was a major part on the victory. And the HiveKing didn’t do much, but it was great for zone control, because he couldn’t attack it easily.

This battle shows a valuable lesson… lever give up, always be ready for your opponent’s mistake, and use your units wisely!
