From my point of view, the player that has the advantage is the one that better controls a specific zone. And for that to happen he needs to create viable threats to the adversary. In my opinion the best units to use for zone control are Vector, Fenix, Doomer and Eagle. In fact, I find these to be the most valuable units on the game.

I’ve just won a match against Amazing Kazoo, one of the best players of the game. This match is very interesting because it shows the relative power of the Vector and the Doomer. You can see that on almost the entire game, the Vector and the Doomer didn’t do anything. They just stayed there, and didn’t made any significant damage.

But they both had a huge importance on the victory. Kazoo had to consider them on all of his moves, and that gave me the advantage, because without great effort, I was targeting him with Vector/Doomer and making moves with other units.

You can see how his Spider were useless against my Vector. The Spider is a hell of a unit, but for zone control it isn’t that interesting. However, on the end game and on 1on1, it owns.

  1. Nice post, it shows a good point. Zone control is good, showing that you can attack is better then attacking, cause it makes your opponent always defend. I would also add the kahuna to the lot, cause of movement cost, range and rebound =)

  2. I intentionally left Kahuna out of the group… yes, they may be used, but I always find that because of the short range, they aren’t as effective.

  3. Yes, it’s true, range of two isn’t that good, but if there are no other units of the ones you said, the kahuna can prove pretty vital =)

  4. When you fight in a war (the real kind) it is better to badly wound a person not kill them. This is because it will take 2 other people to help him/her. This means if you wound someone you are taking out 3 people if you kill someone you only take out one.
It is the same thing here. If you rush in with your Doomers you take out a unit or two if you hold them back to attack you effectively stop alot more.
