Is very important know what units you should have in a fleet. I saw this battle and I follow it to view the result, and it was what I expected.

Why did the player with the biggest fleet loose? The answer is simple, he didn’t have units to be Cannon Fooder, a unit with movement cost 1, and movable in all directions.

  1. The use of light units is one of the most overlooked aspects of this game.

Cannon Fooder may be the single most important tactic a player can use on the “board”. While the basic cannon fooder is not hard to use or even master it is impossible to do when you do not have any units to act as the cannon fooder as seen here. I have seen more games than not won by the lack of light units. This is important to note. Not only do you have to have light units to block you must try to take away your opponents light units, and thus his/her ability to block incoming attacks. If you can do both you will attack freely with little fear of losing any real material.

Most light units fill more than just a blocking role. Quite a few of them do very well when attacking one type of units. The need to have blockers and the ability to use them as attackers will mean that light units should be a very large portion of your fleets. I will guaranty when you are able to use light units to their full potential, you will see more wins than losses.

  2. This is a good example not only of the need to have units for cannon fooder, but also for the splitting of groups. As you can see the Levyr player didn’t split his groups well. By not splitting worms and spiders and the interceptors more, the lack of cannon fooder was even worst for him in battle.
Btw the biggest fleet is the guy with 400 krill and 120 cruzaders and 300 raptors =D

    cheers
