I was behaving pretty well on the ladder. I’d won against nunos, tsousa(several times :)) and others to keep it. The other day reborned challenged me and although I didn’t underestimate him, I didn’t think that he was already a great player on the board.
Here is the battle:
Normally it’s a hard choice weather we should split the best units or not. I usually choose not to, because they’ll be stronger that way. On this battle reborned chose to split them and mad a heck of a deploy. He put 2 groups of Vector and Eagle on each side of the board, and the the Doomer near the middle. That meant that he had catapults everywhere! And they all protected each other.
Now, I made a big mistake by loosing my Eagle, but even so the game was already very balanced at the time, it was asking for an error. Great game by reborned! I learnt a thing or two on this match.

It was a hard match and I wouldn’t call it a mistake, it was a forced mistake. In that turn I put my scarabs on the line for bait either for the worms or eagles and you did something else! I already used a similar deploy against JBarata, as you can see here:
http://s1.orionsbelt.eu/Battle/Battle.aspx?Id=3642970
but I changed against you to get fast attack with the group of eagles in front and catapult in the middle with the doomers. I grow anxious for more awesome battles like this one =)
cheers

The development of Doomers in this battle should be watched by everyone. Most of the time these units are overlooked due to their poor defense and that is a shame because they can be a game maker. In this battle we can see both Doomers start on the bottom row and are offset. This shows us two things, first they are well protected, and seconded they have access to the middle. Their movement type is not the easiest to use, at least it is not straight forward. You have to think about how you will be using it. By starting like they do here we can watch them take the center of the board and move up threatening the entire middle (3-6). Taking control of the middle like this with such a powerful unit can be a game winner all by itself. With high movement cost units like the Doomers and the vector it is best to keep them close to the center.
If we now look at Mawhrin’s Vector that starts on 2nd column after a few turns it moves to the edge of the board, threatening to take out the worms. Without any type of blocker the worms can move away easily. Now the Vector is stuck on the side of the board with not targets and one place to move back… Using 6 movement cost to only threaten. Your opponent has used only 4 to get away, and develop a good unit, where you actually lost development doing the move. Again this has to do with keeping high cost movement pieces in the middle where they have more options, and can attack more units with less movement, like they did with the Doomers.
In Mawhrins defense there was a ton of units and high cost units in this battle, it would have overloaded the middle with units to keep them all there.

Great analysis AD, I totally agree with you. reborned did a great job on the tactics! Even so, I was expecting that my extra experience could turn the game around.
Oh well, it was a great game!
